Her hair flowed like a waterfall of coffee beans, her lips looked just like a coffee stained kiss, and her temper was full of caffeinated energy.
I am biting the bullet here and now for all the world to see. I am making myself publically accountable to show up every day in both April and November and write.
Writing had been a daily occurrence and distraction for me for a long time. The life sunk it’s claws in and time for distraction disappeared and returned in a new form.
The itch to write, or perhaps more specifically, to tell stories, never left. I experimented telling stories in different ways, with different media and different lives.
I am ready to put pen back to paper and let the words flow back out of me again. However there is a slight blockage that needs clearing built up through lack of practice.
To clear that blockage I am pledging to participate in National Novel Writing Month and National Poetry Writing Month this year.
Here is a little insight into my current plan for both:
These rainfalls are temporary,
Refreshing the soul within,
It cannot grow alone.
It would shrivel within.
National Poetry Writing Month
NaPoWriMo – April
Poetry is up first. Throughout April I will write poetry. Some good, some bad, some awful.
All of them I will share here. Show the process and the progression (and regression) of my poetry writing.
I’ve started to collect a mix of things to use as inspiration. 30 day challenges, images, descriptions, broken dialogue etc. Anything that may give a spark.
I’ll produce a page, a tad mood board like to give an idea of what I’m collecting in preparation.
Every second from that clock,
Is a needle
Piercing my heart until it stops.
National Novel Writing Month
NaNoWriMo – November
November is the month I get my novel on! 50,000 words in 30 days. 1,667 words per day.
While I won’t share the actual novel on here, I will keep you updated with how I’m doing, word count, if plans change from the initial plan. The frustrations and the celebrations.
I don’t know how often I’ll post in November yet. Whether I keep things weekly or go to daily or somewhere in between.
I’ve not done much prep for this yet, and probably won’t until September time. But I am brainstorming some general plot ideas already so I’ve got a few ideas to toy with as November draws ever closer.
I’ll share with you on a seperate page things that have inspired and any generally useful prep plans I use.
For both these challenges the focus is on quantity not quality. Quality comes later. For now it’s rebuilding the habit of writing and just getting pen onto paper. I’m so excited and terrified by the prospect of these two challenges.
I can’t wait!
Roxy and I had met several times before. Both of us were rather jumpy, she because she was excited, me because, well, she’s a giant dog with big teeth…
